Our philosophy is summed up by the following
needs children and youth have:
·The need for independence and to be
in control of their own decisions.
·The need to feel competent and
successful.
·The need to belong.
·The need to have fun and find
pleasure in what they do.
As instructors and role models, we strive to do
the following with each child, during every interaction:
·Have lots of contagious and
enthusiastic energy in the form of smiles and animation. Have great
teaching skills including speaking at their level, running drills
effectively and efficiently, and always having Plan B available.
·Utilize our structured curriculum to
build skills.
·Have a great sense of humor that
everyone can enjoy that is not insulting or harmful.
·Incorporate entertainment with
education for maximum positive atmosphere.
·Acknowledge the psychological
characteristics of both the age group and the individual child.
Then, most importantly, adapt our behaviors to be the most effective
for that child or group of children. Drills are developed
according to the following criteria:
·
Life skill we are focusing on
·
Physical skill we are focusing on
·
Needs of the age group, presenting
the material in a manner that is going to motivate and speak most
effectively to them

Perform and document
1,000,000 Acts of Kindness before the 2008 Presidential
Elections!
We want to thank ALL the people who made this
effort a success!
Our goal was to have people around the country
perform and document 1,000,000 Acts of Kindness (acts of kindness
which promote peace). After the elections we planned to
deliver the 1,000,000 Acts of Kindness and our video letter to the
incoming president .We wanted to let him know we want to move our
country to be more compassionate, to help make it so everyone can
attain the American dream (not just a select few) and to help make
sure future generations have that same opportunity.
Another reason we did this is that if people
are mindful of peace, then they are much more likely to avoid
violence. We all do acts of peace/kindness all the time. The purpose
of this initiative is to bring it to the top of our minds and
awareness.
When we give attention to this concept we may
affect more than just the people actively involved in this
initiative. We may also affect their families, friends, co-workers,
associates and anyone who may hear of this effort in the media.
They say that if you do anything for 30 days it
becomes a habit. If we can get a large number of people across
America to mindfully look for, perform and document acts of peace
each day then perhaps they will be more likely to do it more and do
it habitually!
Being a warrior for peace is self defense because
you are reducing the basic elements that move people toward
violence. The reason for this initiative goes back to what Ghandi
said, “Be the change you want on the world”.
Examples of Acts of Kindness are:
Hold the door for someone Let someone into the
lane in front of you Give someone a gift for no reason Thank
someone for doing their job (cashier, mechanic, clerk, security
guard, janitor, etc.) Help someone with a task (even if they
don’t really need the help) Bring someone a meal Give food to
someone who is holding a sign at a street corner Help at a soup
kitchen or homeless shelter Give someone a flower for no reason
Put money in someone’s parking meter Pay for the next person in
line at a toll booth Give someone a sincere compliment on
something they are wearing (clothes, jewelry, perfume) Giving
money to someone or some organization in need Picking up someone
else’s trash Returning someone else’s grocery cart to the store
Let someone in line in front of you Tell someone “You’re smart!”
Sending a card to an elderly or ill person or their family member
Call or visit an elderly or ill person Take groceries to an
elderly or ill person Whatever else your creative mind can think
of! You’re Smart!
We did not attain our goal of 1,000,000 acts of kindness but we made
an impact on many of the people that participated and the people
they took kind action toward
